<div style="text-align: justify;">La località di San Giovanni alla Vena, nel comune di Vicopisano, è stata caratterizzata dalla presenza di attività legate alla <strong>ceramica</strong> (presenti ancora oggi) che raggiunsero il loro apice nel corso della prima metà del XX secolo. <br /><br />Ad ogni modo, grazie ai documenti dell'archivio vicarese, è stato possibile retrodatare e documentare un'attività su vasta scala fin dal XVI secolo, testimoniata dalla presenza di ben 27 fornaci da vasellame da mensa, che ha permesso alla piccola località di essere inserita nel novero dei più importanti centri di produzione ceramica della Toscana. <br /><br />San Giovanni fu favorita dalla presenza di ampi depositi di argilla deposti dall'Arno e dalla facilità del commercio, anch'esso facilitato dalla presenza del fiume e di numerosi navicellai.<br /><br /></div>
